Die Tochter eines Kaufmanns heiratete 1814 den Pfarrer H. aus Dyhernfurth/Oder. Seit 1819 verwitwet, wurde sie schriftstellerisch tätig, um den Lebensunterhalt für fünf Kinder aus den früheren Ehen ihres Mannes zu verdienen. Sie entwickelte sich zu einer überaus beliebten Erzählerin und Romanschriftstellerin; ihre Werke fanden in adligen und bürgerlichen Kreisen weite Verbreitung. H. thematisierte Familienschicksale (u.a. "Die Pflegetöchter", 1821; "Die Schwiegermutter", 2 Bde. 1831, (2) 1832). Ihre "Sämtlichen Schriften" erschienen als Ausgabe letzter Hand in 126 Bändchen 1841-57. Sie schrieb auch die Erinnerungen "Mein Wintergarten.
