Paperback small folio, very good condition, sewn (lay-flat) binding, light crease top corner front cover, top edge lightly foxed (covers minimally), minor edgewear. 143 pp. This book consists of text and sheet music for six harpsichord suites known as the 'French Suites' composed by J. S. Bach (1685 - 1750) between 1722 and 1725… in the German city of Cothen (Kothen, Saxony), where he spent six productive and happy years as Capellmeister in the court of Prince Leopold, producing some of his best known works. The only copies of the French suites in Bach's own hand surviving today were found in a music notebook, possibly a gift to his wife Anna Magdalena on her birthday in 1722, shortly after their marriage. The present edition has been newly researched and edited by Judith Schneider. The holograph (the written manuscript by Bach) and all the associated descriptive manuscripts were carefully studied by the editor. (This copy: 1988 edition, lacking ISBN, same as 1996 edition with ISBN 0739014064.).
