Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Bunje, Emil Theodore Hieronymus; Penn, H.; and Schmitz, Frederick Josef : "Russian California, 1805-1841" (part of the Cultural Contributions of California Bay Cities Series). San Francisco : R. & E. Research Assoc., 1970. Reprint of the 1937 study "written under the Auspices of the Works Progress Administration". Quarto (4vo), 11.25"/28.5cm h. Bound in publisher's glossy b&w wrappers, which itself has been institutionally placed within an outer heavy stock material bound with black cloth tape and stapled, with a plain paper title label affixed with tape (see photo). [vi], [1], 2-76, [77] editor's note [of 1970], [78] blank. Preface, Historical Background, seven additional chapters on aspects of the Russian colony; bibliography (pp 37-74, comprising approximately half of the entire volume); other publications of California Cultural Research. Condition notes: Though encased in a clearly institutional over-binding, there are no additional stamps or stickers typical of e.g. library binding; inside cover of the publisher's front wrapper shows remnant paper from a label previously affixed with adhesive and later removed. Pages unmarked, with general light tanning. Uncommon on the market. Previous owner has laid in a b&w photocopied article "California's Tsarist Colony" from History Today, 1992, Vol 42. We personally inspect every book we offer.
