Trade paperback. xv, [1], 456, [8]p. Illustrations. From Wikipedia: "Marvin Harold Zindler (August 10, 1921 July 29, 2007) was a news reporter for television station KTRK-TV in Houston, Texas, United States. His investigative journalism, through which he mostly represented the city's elderly and working class, made him one of the city's most influential and well-known media personalities. Zindler made local and national headlines when he and reporter Larry Conners closed the Chicken Ranch in Fayette County, Texas, near La Grange, after he made a news report on it in 1973. The Chicken Ranch story was the basis for the Broadway and film musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. The closing did not go well with the sheriff of Fayette County, T.J. Flournoy, who later attacked Zindler in a fight that left Zindler with two fractured ribs, along with a snatched toupee." Good. Cover has some wear and soiling. Some cover curving. Ephemera related to author laid in. Author's large sticker on fep. Presumed first paperback Edition. Presumed first printing.…

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Format is approximately 7 inches by 10,25 inches. xv, [1], 456, [8] pages. Illustrations. Dr. Joseph Agris, MD is a cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery specialist in Houston, TX and has been practicing for 50 years. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1969 and specializes in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery. Marvin Harold Zindler (August 10, 1921 - July 29, 2007) was a news reporter for television station KTRK-TV in Houston, Texas, United States. His investigative journalism, through which he mostly represented the city's elderly and working class, made him one of the city's most influential and well-known media personalities. Zindler made local and national headlines when he and Larry Conners reported on a brothel known as the Chicken Ranch in Fayette County, Texas, which led to its closure in 1973. The Plastic Surgeons of America honored Zindler for his openness about his cosmetic surgeries and for the help he obtained for patients who desperately needed reconstructive surgery. Zindler is the subject of an admiring "authorized biography" by his friend and plastic surgeon, Dr. Joseph Agris. White Knight in Blue Shades is published in cooperation with the Agris-Zindler Children's Foundation; the latter will receive all profits from the book. Agris hopscotches over Zindler's long life -- the early years growing up in Bellaire, son of a clothing store owner who never thought Marvin would amount to anything and frequently told him so. We're reminded of Marvin's brief tenure as a flamboyant news photographer for the old Houston Press, as a flamboyant deputy sheriff, as a flamboyant TV reporter. Several chapters are devoted to Marvin's most notorious journalistic foray -- shutting down the Chicken Ranch. Agris also covers what he calls Marvin's "real best story," covering the Hermann Hospital Estate scandal of the mid-1980s. The trips to Russia and Cuba in more recent years also get attention. And of course we get an earful about Marvin's cosmetic operations, the first of which he underwent in 1954.…
