unbound. Condition: near fine. In this letter, Schenck admonishes fellow Union General Adam Badeau while both were serving in diplomatic posts in England, appointed by President Grant! 3 pages each measuring 6 x 4 inches, January 28 [1872], Little Boston House, Brentford, written as Ambassador to England when Badeau was serving…as the U.S. Consul in London, in part ".If when a fellow is ill and his friends come over with their hearts full of sympathy to comfort him, he will run away, and not wait for them, how can he expect their condolence? That's one view of your case and of our disappointment." After venting his displeasure, a Schenck trademark, he continues in a softer tone, ".But on the other hand I was delighted that you are well enough to be abroad, and I was afraid, from your note, that you were nailed to your bed or room, and hastened out with Woodhull to see you." Schenck's letterhead is monogrammed "AB," having taken a piece of Adam Badeau's personal stationary to write him this letter. Near fine condition. Union Major General, Alabama Claims Commissioner, and American Ambassador to England (1871 - 1876).
