First French edition of Gorres' 'Teutschland und die Revolution'. No visible wear or damage to spine or boards. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown…. Stamp from Fideicommis Bodenstein on half-title page and some minor notations in pencil on final page, otherwise interior is clean and unmarked. Binding quite firm. This book contains the bookplate of Samson B. Knoll, an Austrian-born and German-educated historian who fled Nazi Germany and became a sergeant in the Intelligence division of the U.S. Army. Knoll was also a friend of Mildred Harnack, who was the only American woman sentenced to death by Hitler. Later in life Knoll was a history professor and the president of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, now known as the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Knoll's bookplate was designed for him by the Flemish artist, Frans Masereel. Hard Cover. Very Good.
