Rockefeller Jr. (1874-1960) was an American financier and the only son of John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil Company in 1870, which he ran until 1897. At its peak, Standard Oil controlled 90% of all oil in the United States, making the Rockefeller family the richest American family of all time. Rockefeller Jr. was one of the largest real estate holders in midtown Manhattan, with the construction of Rockefeller Center in 1931. Rockefeller Jr. was the father of six children, including Vice President Nelson Rockefeller.

With Harding's untimely death in 1923, he was unable to personally confirm or deny the scandal, but his family denied the allegation for years. In 2015, Britton's claim was confirmed using DNA testing. Nan Britton died in 1991 and her daughter, Elizabeth, died in 2005.
