Contact seller4-star sellerSoftcover. White card wraps with color illus. and black titling. 192 pp. with bw frontis, 9 bw figures within the text, and 9 color / 62 bw catalogue illustrations. Catalogue from the traveling exhibition held in 5 US locations between September 1979 and August 1980. Preface by Ruth Cloudman, Curator. The biographical essay was…compiled using material by Dickinson's sister, Enid Dickinson Collins, plus material written by Wiliam M. Milliken for biographic dictionary. Each catalogue entry is annotated to a greater or lesser degree, and the bibliography is presented chronologically. "Dickinson's earliest Precisionist works, a style of early twentieth century painting that depicted scenes of modern architecture and industry, first appeared in 1914. These early works are clarified to basic geometric shapes and rendered with a combination of abstraction and realism reminiscent of the cubism of Juan Gris. Over the course of the next nine years, Dickinson's work was a personal and often idiosyncratic investigation of a variety of artistic idioms, including the painting style of Paul Cézanne, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, and futurism. Yet, despite this eclecticism, Dickinson clearly enjoyed the geometry, ambiguous space, and multiple viewpoints of cubism." VG- curling to bottom corner of book. some shelfwear, staining and defect on rear cover.
