Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 3rd Edition. An appealing period guide to Western North Carolina published during the late 1970s tourism boom, offering an extensive snapshot of the Blue Ridge Mountains before the region's modern development. Covering Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Biltmore House, Mount Mitchell, Boone, Blowing Rock, Highlands, Cherokee, Hendersonville, Brevard, and dozens of mountain communities, the guide includes road maps, historical essays, lodging and restaurant recommendations, craft centers, antique shops, scenic attractions, skiing, trout fishing, waterfalls, festivals, and regional history. Particularly interesting today are the period advertisements and listings for businesses, restaurants, and attractions that have since changed or disappeared, making the volume a valuable reference for collectors of Appalachian history and North Carolina ephemera. Condition: Very Good. Bright pictorial wrappers with moderate shelf wear, light edge rubbing, scattered surface soiling, and several small spots of paper loss to the rear cover. Light corner wear with a mild crease to the upper corner. Interior remains clean and bright with no ownership markings observed. Binding is sound. Edition: Third Edition (1978), as stated on the covers. This edition reflects Western North Carolina immediately before the major tourism expansion of the 1980s and serves as an excellent period reference for researchers, historians, travelers, and collectors of Appalachian and Blue Ridge regional history.
