The marble-mining industry in Vermont. Illustrations include an original quarry lot, a scene in the quarry, a scene of bringing down the block with oxen, the polishing bed, a sculptor working on a statue for the Boston post-office, a view in the sawing mill, and a small view of the surface of the mining operation. A scholarly tome that gathers some of the stories from four of this rural Vermont writer's published volumes of short fiction from the late nineteenth century. There is considerable introductory matter here: after the acknowledgments comes a preface of over six pages by David Budbill, the volume's editor; and then a forty page Introduction, "Vermont's Genius of the Folk, Rowland E. Robinson", by Hayden Carruth; followed by an Author's Foreword. The book has a few drawings by the author's daughter, and the jacket features a painting by papa Rowland himself. Apart from a thin remainder slash on bottom edges and minimally bumped corners, a fine copy in a near fine, slightly rubbed dust jacket.

Light green cloth boards show tanning along edges and spine, spine being the heaviest. The edges and corners also show minor bumping. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. Pages are toned due to age but are clean.

The title page states 1902, which is typically the actual year of print, but the copyright page states 1910.

Faint spine sticker are of fade to cloth at lower spine/boards.
