Add to basketRed Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Second Edition. iv, 362, i (ads.) pp. 12mo. 1856. Second edition. A very good, clean, tight copy of this scarce publication in original publisher's red cloth boards - gilt embossed to the spine and to the front board. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, one fold out maps (one with some postag…e stamp margins paper repairs to verso - quite charming!) 9 folding engraved (lithographs) plates and a single engraved plate. Original publisher's red cloth boards gilt embossed to the spine and to the front board with gilt vignette of a group of standing stones to the front board. Provenance: The bookplate of I. T. Davy pasted to the front paste-down - this being unevenly toned as is some of the paste-down around it - probably from an excess of glue used in pasting it down. Also the very small blind stamp of W.Clifford to the corner of the front endpaper who was a Bible and prayer book seller based in Exeter. Very firmly bound with only the slightest of splitting to the innner hinges. A little light fading to the cloth spine. Slight occasional foxing. A very good, well preserved copy of this the early second edition.
