First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New, 183 pp. Cover artwork by: John Coulthart "As always, Floyd Betts rides into town alone. He arrives for his father's funeral, but he is returning to Galveston, Texas, with two orphaned siblings he has rescued. Nellie, who is descended from a long line of witches, has visions from other people's minds. Hank, her impulsive younger brother, just wants to break out his outsized revolver. Along the way home, Floyd, Nellie, and Hank encounter a dubious traveling salesman, Professor Finn, and his henchman, Kentucky Jim. They are struggling to capture a fish-man in order to put him on cruel display. When Nellie taps into the peril of the gentle Charlie Fish, Floyd's makeshift family expands to include the lost, two-legged amphibian. With the circus charlatans in pursuit, ominous winds are picking up from an impending hurricane. Meanwhile, all Charlie Fish wants is to return to his home at sea." Add to basketRed Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No dj. First Edition. Tight clean red cloth hardcover, no date but circa mid 30's with art deco feel to binding and illus. Bright gilt aeroplane/sun motif on front panel with couple atop wings. Gilt clear to evenly faded spine panel. Little wear, corners crisp, no DJ. 12 full page colour plates, 3 by Harry Rountree. Two of these are illustrations in a complete version of Alice in Wonderland, which extends from page 33 to 95, and also has many Harry Rountree line illus. in text. There are many other fairy tales in this volume, mainly classics by Andersen and Grimm, and there are several other very commendable plates by various artists. The book ends abruptly and in the gutter between the final leaf and the pictorial endpaper there appear to be the stubs of three presumably blank leaves. However these are carefully glued down with what best can tell is the original publisher's glue, so I think this is deliberate but just went a little careless at the printers. 278pp. A nice and unusual addition to any Alice collection. Size: 4to. Harry Rountree, Anne Anderson, H. M. Vrock, Charles Robinson (illustrator).…
