Original half linen over blue boards, with paper title labels to spine and front board. Overall a very good hardback book since it is so fine internally, and it is tight and well bound. Extra illustrated; ten tinted plates as called for, this volume contains and additional six titnted color plates , five of which represent empire period female costume; an engraving of Ludwig XVIII inserted at the frontispiece (foxing); engraved portraits of Voltaire and Rousseau; engraving of Versailles from Paris Avenue (foxing to plate and facing page). Binding worn about the edges and with a 1/2" chip at head of spine.
