Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Rossetti was a British poet, illustrator, painter and translator, and a member of the Rossetti family. He founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais. His work also influenced the European Symbolists and was a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement. His early poetry was influenced by John Keats. His later poetry was characterized by the complex interlinking of thought and feeling, especially in his sonnet sequence, The House of Life. Poetry and image are closely entwined in Rossetti's work. He frequently wrote sonnets to accompany his pictures, spanning from The Girlhood of Mary Virgin (1849) and Astarte Syriaca (1877), while also creating art to illustrate poems such as Goblin Market by the celebrated poet Christina Rossetti, his sister. Author's edition. Rare and collectible. Red cloth, gold titles on front and spine, top edge gilt, wide decorative band around both covers and spine. No stated publishing history so presumed first edition, first printing thus. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. No DJ. No owner's marks or bookplates, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square with some staining and fading on boards. Corners not bumped. Hinges are loose on front and back. A good reading copy.

Not dated, but circa 1871. xxxi, 400pp. Red cloth-covered boards with raised titles and gilt and embossed decorations and gold colouring both to the front and spine of book, lovely imprint pattern on the back of book, all edges gilt, bevelled edges, tissue-guarded frontispiece, extra illustrated title page. There is a facsimile of Hood's handwriting as well as numerous small black and white illustrations. 12mo. Some light rubbing and rounding to the corners and spine ends. Some discolouration to the text block spray. Internally hinges cracked and a couple of lightly strained gutters. Gift inscription on label on front free endpaper, in a contemporary hand, and an embossed imprint; a further gift inscription, dated 1871, opposite the half-title. Faint and occasional spotting throughout. Contains a selection of poems by Thomas Hood.

Illustrated Tilte Page, has a Lady with a Dog. Printed title page had a Red Linear Border and small illustration of books. All text pages have the same Red border. Illustrated with some full page plates and In text illustrations by Thomas Seccombe. Undated Edition, Presentation Inscription on endpaper dated 1880. 620 Pages, 680g, 7 1/2" Tall. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Undated but circa 1900. 154pp, monochrome frontispiece. A deluxe edition bound in full cushioned waxed emerald cloth with gilt lettering, all edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles around golden decorated green endpapers, title page printed in red and black. Attractive head and tail pieces. 12mo. Cloth is a little worn at edges, rubbed through at corners and at ends of a sunned spine, a couple of scuffs on front panel. Hinges cracked, not affecting binding. A little browning on versos of free endpapers, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A lovely vintage copy, would make super gift for an admirer of Whittier's poetry.

In overall good used condition with minor signs of age, handling and storage - rubbing to edges and spine darkened, with wear to cloth at spine head and tail. Internally clean. Binding tight and appears little read, no annotations or inscriptions; toning to page-ends but text bright and clear throughout. Frontispiece portrait of Rossetti retains its tissue-paper guard. Not an old library book. Photograph available.

Leather. Condition: Fair-good. 595 pages. Red leather binding has rubs to corners, shelf rubbing along bottom edge, wear to head and foot of spine. A few nicks and crackles. Gold gilt decoration on front is bright. Green marbled endpaper are unmarked. Gold gilt on pages' edges is bright. Text is clean, unmarked and very nice considering the age of this book (probably greater that 100 years though it is not specified.) One corner gold marking a favourite selection was noticed.
