This work was awarded the Outstanding Publication in Wildlife Management award from The Wildlife Society. Rosene worked as a biologist for the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife (the precursor agency to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and then became a private consultant to numerous Quail Hunting Plantations in the Southeastern U.S. (Ref: National Quail Symposium Proceedings vol 7 2012 In Memoriam) Richard A. Parks (Dick) was a well known wild-life artist and the resident artist of the Georgia Ornithological Society. Bob Sargent, then president of the Georgia Ornithological Society said of Parks: "If you've never truly gazed at a bird before,you might find that when you look at one of Dick's paintings, you will feel as though someone has just made clear to you a poem you never previously understood."
