Most books on fencing are descriptive, with illustrations intended to show specific points. In this book the description is entirely visual. Photographs and drawings tell the story; captions are of the briefest. The book covers the basic and tactical movements at foil, epee, Italian and Hungarian sabre, and it also includes a brief historical section by the editor. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with a few patches of damp fading on the top edge of both boards. The spine ends are lightly bumped with a little fading at the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with some faint damp marking on the top 2" of the half-title and title pages. There are traces of a removed small label or inscription that has caused some thinning to the paper near he bottom of the front fixed endpaper. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and rubbing along the edges, including down the spine edges. Small pieces are missing from the corner tips and spine ends. There is a tear of about 1" on the top front edge and several smaller tears, most of which have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. …
