Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. An original sheet music edition of one of the signature songs from Rodgers & Hammerstein's landmark Broadway musical Oklahoma! Based on Lynn Riggs' Green Grow the Lilacs, the production premiered in 1943 and transformed the American musical by seamlessly integrating story, music, and dance. 'The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,' performed by Curly, quickly became one of the show's most beloved numbers and remains a staple of the American musical theatre repertoire. The attractive original cover credits the historic Theatre Guild production and features the original creative team, including director Rouben Mamoulian and choreographer Agnes de Mille, making this an appealing period piece for collectors of Broadway history. Condition is Good+. Covers retain strong color and remain complete with moderate age toning, scattered handling wear, light creasing, and several moisture stains that are largely confined to the margins and cover panels. The interior music remains complete and easily legible, with no missing pages observed. The upper corners of the cover and one interior page exhibit small losses from old chips or tears, none affecting the printed music. Binding remains secure, making this an attractive and entirely usable example of an original 1943 Broadway-era sheet music publication. The publisher's imprint - Crawford Music Corporation, RKO Building, Radio City, New York - anchors this piece in one of the most important entertainment addresses of its era. Housed in Rockefeller Center alongside NBC studios, RKO Radio Pictures, music publishers, theatrical agencies, and Broadway business offices, Crawford distributed the music of one of Broadway's most revolutionary productions from the very crossroads of American musical theatre. Robert M. Holley (1913-1977) was a prolific commercial artist whose studio produced hundreds of sheet music covers during the 1940s, including many Broadway, patriotic, and popular music publications. His work dominated a large portion of the sheet music market during the World War II era. Cover art by Robert M. Holley (illustrator).…
