Soiling to dull green top edge; toning and soiling to fore-edge and bottom edge. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Third printing before publication. Modestly worn good copy lacking the dustwrapper. A novel about political corruption in New York, apparently inspired by true events. Roberts was a prolific black journalist of West Indian origins, who was later known for his travel books of that region. He wrote the first true detective novel by an African-American, as well as volumes of both travel and poetry.
