Hardcover. Fifth Edition. Book condition is Very Good, bound in cloth with gilt titles and front cover decoration, and embossed decorations. Chip to cloth at spine and rear panel. Vintage bookseller stamp inside front cover, owner notation on front end page. Ownership notation on second front end page from John A. Sears, Captain… of Battery and 1st assistant to the regiment, Vermont Volunteers. Note also mentions he was near Washington DC, June 21st, 1865.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

Good plus. Roberts, stationed at Fort Monroe, became its Commander when Civil War broke out. Its chapters are written in question-and-answer format. The book was "P…ossibly printed before the secession of Virginia" [Parrish]. This is one of two 1861 Richmond imprints, each of them scarce. The book begins with the "Proceedings" which resulted in its acceptance as a training manual for the Artillery School at Fort Monroe in 1860. Parrish & Willingham 5024. Crandall 2473. Nicholson 708.
