Inscribed by one NASA engineer to another (Gale Giberson to Dal Beauchamp), otherwise unmarked. 128 pages, including numerous close-up detailed photos of Mercury's cratered surface. [2.9 lbs]. Book.

Condition: fair, ex-lib. First? Edition. First? Printing. 29 x 36 cm, 128, illus., references, index, usual library markings, front hinge cracked. Prepared for the Office of Space Sciences, NASA. NASA SP-423. The Mariner 10 probe flew by Venus and made the first use of solar sail techniques to approach Mercury. A clever plan of taking many small photographs allowed high resolution transmission of correspondingly small data packets to Earth.
