Gray paper over boards with red cloth overlay on the spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. 76 pp 8vo. This is the rediscovered novel by the father of the hard-boiled crime thriller. This book is about a young woman who appears at the door of an isolated house. She is frightened, hurt, and speaks in a foreign accent and there are strange men pursuing her. There is menace in the air.Originally published in Liberty magazine in 1933 and then again in 1950 in a pulp paperback edition. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
