Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Printing, First Edition Thus. This collection of 25 short stories from the pulp fiction mystery magazines of the 1930s and '40s is a celebration of the hard-boiled private detective. It includes stories by Raymond Chandler, Erle Stanley Gardner, Paul Cain, William Campbell Gault, John D. MacDonald, Robert Block and Frank Gruber among others. The dustjacket does not show a price, an indicator of a book club edition, though the copyright page contains a full number line beginning with "1." A somewhat humorous inscription to the previous owner on the front end paper, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square; the dustjacket shows only very minimal surface and edgewear. An economical introduction to some of the best pulp fiction private eyes.
