Revised Draft script for an unproduced stage play of Robert Bloch's 1960 short story, adapted by noted horror author and screenwriter David J. Schow. Bound in after the script is a four-page Typed Letter Signed from Schow to Bloch, as well as an image illustrating set design for the play. "The Final Performance" was first published in "Shock" magazine in September of 1960, and was adapted for television for "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" in 1965. Schow's stage play was ultimately published in his 1998 book "Crypt Orchids," a collection of short stories paying homage to Bloch and other horror authors. Robert Bloch is best known for penning Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1959), although his six-decade writing career encompassed novels, short stories, radio, cinema, and television. A protégé of H.P. Lovecraft, Bloch received the Hugo Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and the World Fantasy Award, and served as the president of the Mystery Writers of America in 1970. Black wrappers with a typed title label affixed to the front wrapper. Title page present, dated 26 November 1990, noted as REVISED DRAFT [B], with credits for Bloch and Schow. 18 leaves, with last page of text numbered 17. Xerographic duplication, rectos only. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, bound internally with three silver brads.
