Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. "A Most Friendly Farewell to Sir Francis Drake" is a compelling piece of Elizabethan commemorative literature penned by Henry Robarts to honor one of England's most celebrated naval heroes. Written on the occasion of Drake's 1585 expedition to the West Indies, this work functions as both a c…elebratory panegyric and a historical document reflecting the nationalistic spirit of the Tudor age. Robarts utilizes evocative language to wish Drake success, portraying the voyage as a noble endeavor for the glory of Queen Elizabeth I and the expansion of English influence across the seas. The text serves as an important primary source for understanding the cultural and political climate of the late sixteenth century, particularly the public's fascination with maritime exploration and the ongoing rivalry with the Spanish Empire. By focusing on the virtues of bravery, loyalty, and nautical skill, Robarts immortalizes the departure of the fleet in a manner that resonates with the heroic tradition of English letters. This work is an essential read for those interested in naval history, Renaissance poetry, and the enduring legacy of Sir Francis Drake within the English historical consciousness. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
