Das erratische Verhalten der Hauptakteure führt zu weiteren eigentümlichen Handlungssprüngen, man könnte fast sagen -brüchen. Der kurze Roman hat vor allem im ersten Teil wenig Zusammenhalt. Dazu kommt: Das Buch beschreibt zwar immer im weitesten Sinn die Hauptperson; die jedoch hat 63 Söhne, ungezählte Töchter und hunderte weitere Nachfahren.
