Hardback. Dust Jacket. Book in Very Good condition, Dust Jacket Good only. Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Previous owner's name erased to top of front end papers. 191 Pages. with several illustrations. Price clipped Dust Jacket slightly rubbed and chipped to edges. British music lovers have cause to thank the Halle Concerts Society for its bold decision to persuade John Barbirolli to leave the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and become permanent conductor of the Halle. His right to the American rostrum vacated by Toscanini was firmly established and as is shown in the little-known story of his seven years' conductorship of the New York Philharmonic, the American ublic had become enraptured with his interpretations. Yet without hesitation he returned to Britain proudly to take over the direction of a new and untried team of musicians. Under his baton the Halle has risen to new heights, and we have come to expect of it a perfection which can only be attainable with a man of Barbirolli's genius to read the score. In this biographical sketch, Charles Rigby unfolds the Barbirolli story, a tale of achievement which will gladden the hearts of his many followers.
