Hardback. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. This copy is bound in terracotta cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. The spine has been nibbled by mice to the foot of the spine and to the centre which has resulted in some loss to the dust wrapper spine. The text block is unaffected,… bright, white, tight and square. Lutyens was the foremost natural talent English architecture ever produced. His buildings were better conceived than Wren's or Adam's, better made than those of Frank Lloyd Wright, an admirer. Long ago, Country Life journalists set him on a pinnacle. Since then, historians and camp-followers of Prince Charles have tried to put him back there. Against modernist barbarities, they say, Lutyens held up the banner of humanism. Ref EE4.
