Numerous other b/w illustrations are in-text. An additional plate has a color illustration of the Confederate flag, with 7 stars, and one white stripe between two horizontal red stripes. An errata page is tipped in. One corner of the front board is stained. The top edge of the back board has three, threadbare spots, 1/8 in. to a linear 1 1/2 in. More than half of the cloth is mottled with small faded (scraped?) spots. The text block ends have darkened; the foredge has foxing. The bottom corner of the title page has a crease line. First edition, hardcover, inscribed by the author's wife on the second free end page, the hinges are cracked with crash/super showing through, and the cloth of the covers and spine is heavily spotted and faded with areas of mottling and chips presumably caused by insect damage. The book also has bumps with fraying to the cloth at the spine ends and cover corners, sunning to the spine and cover edges, soiling to the edges of the text block that bleed onto the page faces in only a couple of places, and splitting starting to the cloth of the exterior hinges, otherwise an As Is only copy.
