Illustrated throughout with twelve engraved plates; three to volume I, and nine to volume II. Collated, complete. A complete civil and ecclesiastical history of Bristol, with details from its founding by King Brennus, through the Siege of Bristol in 1645 and the origin of manufacturing, to the development of schools and philosophical societies. With biographical sketches of prominent inhabitants. Volume I is the work of John Corry, an Irish topographer and historian writer, while Volume II the work of Reverend John Evans, a writer and historian. Re-backed with half crushed morocco and brown boards. Externally, tired with bumping to the extremities and the odd mark to the board. Significant loss to the spine of volume two. Hinges tender but generally firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd spot. Fair. book.

Beautiful and supple brown leather boards, seven raised bands to spine gilt titles on red field, light shelf wear. Front and back boards feature several geometric panels w/fleur-de-lis like blind-stamp to corners. Brown and gold patterned endpapers with two additional heavy stock endpapers at front and back, in this appropriately styled and finely re-bound rarity. Original deckled leaves generally very good, clean w/moderate chip, attractive toning, moderate discoloration. Bind good. A unique and beautiful rarity of intriguing discourse and thought.
