Pencil signature of Dr Robert Collyer of New York dated 1903 on the reverse of the front free end paper, presumably a relative of the first author. Also a presentation inscription from Yorkshire botanist F A Lees to his father dated 1888. Lees wrote the section on botany in this book forming pages xxxi - lxi. Part 2 of this work covers geology, botany, fauna and early remains.

With contributions from various other authors. In the original full cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. A small puncture mark to the spine causing a minor split to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the extremities.
