"Three-thousand engravings, one hundred maps and plans, and numerous chromolithographs." All listed chromolithographs and color maps collated, complete, 48 chromo plates (one listed chromo. plate-- frontispiece of Vol. I, section I -- is actually black and white) and 37 color maps, several of which are spread across a tipped-in sheet or fold-out to 13" x 17". Blue cloth bindings with title plates toned to a dark brown, gilt top edges. One nearly detached page gathering in Vol. V:I, one detached tipped-in engraved sheet fully detached, otherwise bindings remain intact and mostly sturdy, though may become precarious without careful handling; hinges mostly intact, webbing peeking through at least one volume; boards worn at edges, cloth frayed at spine ends; superficial damp-staining apparent on cloth of most boards, some cloth wavy/warped, a pages show some staining at interior edges; surface scratches, faint dust soiling to most boards as well; gilt top edges dulled but otherwise very good; a few stray pencil markings in at least one volume, else interior pages and plates in very good condition, plates remain bright and bold; title plates toned, some chipped at edges, black text remains legible, red text faded and only faintly legible. Between one and three previous owner plates on front paste-downs (appears to have been passed down among family members), one previous owner inscription in Vol. I:I dated 1884.
