Elegant morocco binding with gilt decorated and titled spine, gilt decorated boards and gilt decorated page and board edges. Scarce work - 4 in British Libraries. xvi, 271, [1 blank]pp. Approximately 6 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition slightly faded, gilt titles, 4 raised gilt bands separating 5 compartments, 4 of which have lavish gilt decorations, gently worn top and tail. Joints good condition gently rubbed. Corners good condition gently bumped and worn. Boards good condition full maroon leather boards with gilt decoration to the front and rear, both boards have bevelled edges and the outer edges are also decorated in gilt. Page edges good condition all gilt. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition the front hinge has cracked at the title page but is holding well, rear hinge sound. Paste downs good condition marbled, the front paste down has a leather bookplate edged in gilt with a gilt message to R. C. Wintour from Thomas Gascoigne. End papers good condition marbled, internal free end papers are tanned and foxed. Title good condition lightly tanned with some foxing. Pages good condition there is a half title page followed by the main title page, preface signed Walthamstow 1856, pages are lightly tanned throughout. Binding good condition an attractive copy.
