Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Undated but all indications point to First Edition, circa 1886 (publisher's advertisements with last book dated 1886). Attractive original red pictorial cloth board with red and black letters for title in gilt title square, cover has only very light wear, corners ever-so-slightly tubbed, some sunning to spine, light soiling on rear board, frontispiece and other illustrations, title page has illustration of the titular gardener with author's name worked into the illustration, edges tanned, book is bound with sewn gatherings, section with pages 39-42 is partly detached, there is occasional foxing, light smudges n blank pre-title pages, binding is tight.
