Octavo, original cloth boards lettered and decorated in black to upper board, title lettered in black to spine, pp 112, ii, including bibliography and index. Small ownership signature (dated 1939) and separate letter 'R' to front free endpaper, otherwise very clean. Small area of fading to fore-edge of spine at top, even smaller areas of fading head and foot of spine. Very good condition. Uncommon. Reuben Levy (1891 - 1966) was at the time of publication the Lecturer in Persian at the University of Oxford, and later became the Professor of Persian at the University of Cambridge, the chair being created for him. He wrote on Persian literature and Islamic history. The first edition of an authoritative introduction to Persian literature.

The Bustan "The Garden" is a book of poetry by the Persian poet Saadi, completed in 1257 CE, and is considered one of two major works of Saadi. xix, 159 Seiten, b/w frontispiece plate by Cynthia Kent with tissue guard. Original green cloth binding with green lettering, good with a little rubbing to extremities, cloth slightly light marked, Exlibris. No dust jacket.
