Reuben Levy (1891 - 1966) was at the time of publication the Lecturer in Persian at the University of Oxford, and later became the Professor of Persian at the University of Cambridge, the chair being created for him. He wrote on Persian literature and Islamic history. The first edition of an authoritative introduction to Persian literature.
