Hardcover. 519p., paperstock is somewhat acidic and toned and not yet fragile, texts are illustrated with a number of vignette woodblocks; reprint of an 1885 first issue, hardbound cased into 9x6 inch grey cloth boards decorated in black and titled gilt. A generally good copy; spine has a small blemish, back cover has a minute ding and lots of ight staining or offset soil, while the interior is perfectly clean, sound and tight. All in all, good to very good. The twenty or so images portraying correct gestures in elocution are unintentionally funny; and there's plenty of intentional.

It looks to me as if someone (the publisher?) has replaced the title page of this book because it extends beyond the other pages and has been slightly damaged as a result. Please find a nice copy, not without its issues, of: The Life of General U.S. Grant, His Early Life, Military Achievements, and History of His Civil Administration; His Sickness Together With His Tour Around the World, Containing His Speeches, Receptions, and Descriptions of His Travels, edited by L.T. Remlap. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ĵ x 9 inches, 716 pages) was published by C.F. Demmer of New Haven, Connecticut, dated 1885 and a probable First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in bright blue boards with black framing and gilt titles, on cover and spine. The book includes a handsome, tissue-guarded engraving of General Grant as Frontispiece and another 60+ illustrations. Condition: This book is in good condition. The real flaw, over and above the possible replaced title page, is that the back cover has been wet and lost much of its blue color. The boards are slightly bumped at the corners and spine tips. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are generally clean and bright, with the rare instance of soiling but without toning or any extensive foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.
