Add to baskethardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. A Check-List of the Book Illustrations of John Buckland Wright, Together with a Personal Memoir, Anthony Reid â" First Edition Publication: Pinner, Private Libraries Association, 1968 Formatting: Royal 8vo, pp. 94, [16] plates. Condition Report: Very Good. The binding remains notably tight and square, with the blue cloth boards retaining a deep, unfaded colour. The gilt tooling to the front board and the red leather title label on the spine are both exceptionally bright and unoxidised. There is a very slight softening to the spine ends, alongside a minuscule touch of rubbing to the extreme tip of the top right corner of the front board and a faint, negligible scuff to the rear board. The top edge shows very slight, even toning typical of its age, while the remaining text block edges are crisp. Internally, the pages are highly bright and clean, free from any foxing, institutional stamps, or obtrusive prior ownership markings. A highly presentable, structurally sound copy. Catalogue Note: This limited first edition was published in a run of 1,400 copies, with only 700 copies designated for public sale. The handsome cloth binding features a distinctive front cover brass designed specifically for the author by John Buckland Wright himself. The typography was carefully set in 'Monotype' Ehrhardt and printed by W & J Mackay & Co Ltd, with the sixteen supplementary plates at the rear executed by The Stellar Press. Given the restricted commercial run, it remains an uncommon find on the open market, particularly in such unrubbed, well-preserved condition without the easily lost glassine wrapper. An authoritative and beautifully produced reference work detailing the extensive book illustrations of the celebrated engraver John Buckland Wright. Compiled with meticulous care by Anthony Reid, this volume serves not only as a comprehensive bibliographical checklist but also offers a warm, insightful personal memoir of the artist. Richly illustrated, it stands as an indispensable resource for any serious collector of modern British wood-engraving, private press history, or 20th-century book illustration.
