First Edition Original oatmeal coloured boards, 10.00 x 7.75 inches approx. , oval shaped centre piece to front board pasted with a coloured illustration of a horse and rider jumping over an obstacle, this oval shape would have been bordered in gold but some of this is worn, bevelled edges, gilt lettering to spine, some soiling to the pale background, traces of varyiation to the colour of the boards, spine and rear board just a little darker, small pink stain to rear board top edge, generally presentable and tight, closed page edges uncut and somewhat dusty, top edge faded gilt, endpapers clean, tissue protected (tissue slightly creased) coloured portrait which is pasted to thick grey card of Reginald Herbert, Master of the Monmouthshire Foxhounds 1885-1903, the title page has the title printed in yellow edged with black made to look hand written and the same picture vignette that appears on the front board, following the title page there is a black and white portrait of The Marquess of Abergavenny to whom the author dedicates the book. Contents shows the headings for XV Chapters, 18 coloured Illustrations all present and black & white illustrations in the text. Delightful illustrations illustration of countryside activities. Collectable.

The first edition of this work in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Ink inscription to the front free end paper. Reginald Herbert, 15th Earl of Pembroke and 12th Earl of Montgomery (1880-1960) was a British peer. This is his anecdotes of horse-racing, from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century, illustrated with many in-text engravings and colour plates. A colour portrait of the author has been pasted to the frontispiece. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally smart, with just some faint marks to the boards and shelf wear to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, except for light spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.
