Jean Rapp…(1771-1821) joined the chasseurs in 1788, proved himself by bravery and daring and became adc to Napoleon. He played a major role in the disastrous Russian Campaign of 1812, and saved the Emperor's life at Gorodna. These meoirs are solely about his military career. This is a high quality facsimile of the original edition. Size: 220x140mm.

2 SS. auf Doppelblatt. 8vo. Mit eh. Adresse verso (Faltbrief). An eine Madame Fortuna (der Nachname in der Adresse alt getilgt). Rapp habe die Nachricht erhalten, dass der frz. Feldherr Anne Jean Marie René Savary, Duc de Rovigo, gerade in das Staatsgefängnis (Prison de l'Abbaye) gebracht worden wäre. Ein gewisser M. Martin habe… Rapp in einem der Pariser Salons Falschaussagen in der Korrespondenz mit Savary unterstellt. Rapp hätte Savary empfohlen nicht nach Paris zu kommen. Rapp wäre zudem ebenso "monarchistisch" geworden wie das aktuelle Ministerium. Rapp empört sich, dass ihm jemand solche Dummheiten angedichtet habe. Die Adressatin kenne ja seinen Brief und dessen Inhalt. Mme Savary hingegen sei so schlecht umgeben und beraten, dass nichts des Lächerlichen, das ihr Haus verlässt, Rapp noch verwundern könne. Abschließen erwähnt Rapp, er leide an einem Erkältungsfieber, würde aber Savary treffen, sobald er sich besser fühle: "On vient de me dire que Savary venoit d'etre conduit à l'abbaye, j'ai appris cette nouvelle avant celle de son Arrivée à Paris. Un Certain Mr Martin doit avoir dit dans un Sallon [!] de la capitale, que j'avois ecrit a Savary dans les termes suivant[s]. Je te conseille de ne pas venir à Paris il n'en est pas tems encore, Je suis devenu Ultra ainsi que le ministère actuel, je sais donc ce que se passe ne reviens pas. Comment peut on me faire ecrire de sottises pareilles, vous avez lu ma lettre, ou je vous ai fait part de son contenu. Vous voyez combien il est agreable d'etre utile à quelqu'un dans les tems ou nous vivons, Mme Savary est d'ailleurs si mal entourée, et si mal conseillé[e] que rien ce qui peut sortir de ridicule de sa maison ne m'étonne. Je suis au lit depuis que je vous ai vu j'ai une fievre de rhume, sitôt que je serai mieux j'irai voir Savary, malgré les sottises de ses alentours [.]". - Savary kehrte aus dem Exil Mitte Dezember 1819 nach Paris zurück. Gemäß den Gesetzen wurde er bei Ankunft in das Staatsgefängnis (Prison de l'Abbaye) gebracht, jedoch sehr höflich behandelt (vgl. Rovigo, Duc de: Mémoires [.] Tome VI. Paris / Londre: Colburn, 1828, S. 193). - Bl. 2 mit kleinem Ausriss durch Brieföffnung und Resten des Briefverschlusses.
