Unbound. Condition: Very good+ condition. First Edition. Promotional card from the nightclub "Man's Country" located at 515 N. Clark St. in Chicago; printed on both sides. One side has a printed photographic image of Rand, over which she has inscribed "To the Up North Restaurant [signed] Sally Rand." The reverse of the card reads "Your host Gary Chichester invites you to meet Miss Sally Rand. Miss Rand will be delighted to autograph this photograph for you between shows." A few tiny spots of mounting adhesive on text side of card, with one tiny spot affecting image. Born as Helen Gould Beck caught her fame on the midway in the 1933 Century of Progress World's Fair where she danced with fans made of huge ostrich plumes, and not much else. Entertainment, Celebrity. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Signed by Author(s). Autograph.

Rand (1904-79), born April 3, 1904, Hickory County, Missouri; died August 31, 1979, Glendora, California; American stage, vaudeville and screen actress; more famous as a fan-dancer in burlesque; debuted her fan dance at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair; film career of over 25 films from 1925-1938: appeared in three Cecil B. DeMille's productions "Bachelor Brides" 1926; "Gigolo" 1926; and "The King of Kings" 1927.

This exotic fan dancer caused a sensation at the 1933 Chicago Word's Fair. TNS, 1p, 5½" X 8½", Glendora, CA, 1968 March 8. Addressed to Norman Ziel. Very good. Would be fine but for small tape stain on verso that shows through at center of letter (not affecting signature). Thanks an admirer for his letter. Large, sloppy signature.

Slight rubbing and browning (chiefly to edges); slight paperclip marking at top edge; else a well-preserved piece. 1 leaf (recto only). Full-face pose, with fan covering most of body (except for left leg); unidentified photographer, date is conjectural; signed (in full) and inscribed by Rand in blue ink (on fan part of image): 'To Mary / with every good wish / Sincerely / Sally Rand'. 6 3/4' x 4 3/4' (17.3 x 12.1 cm). Additional manila envelope (with Sally Rand imprint and that of Maurice Seymour Studios); postmarked Baltimore, Maryland, May 16, 1938, with secretarial holograph address and address correction.
