Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Edward Jenner (illustrator). Edition and printing not stated. In original tan leather with gilt highly decorative edges front and rear, gilt decorative leather spine with five raised horizontal bands, black title field and gilt titles. The boards are flat, quite tight; small marks and slight discolouration to front and rear; spine ends and sides a little worn. Unmarked multi-coloured marble end papers; white bookseller's sticker from Wheldon & Wesley, Ltd, Hitchen. The text block is illustrated with 35 plates by Edward Jenner, 34 are hand coloured and 1 in black and white. The pages are even and firmly attached to the covers. The Prelims and end pages are slightly foxed and tanned, the text pages are mainly clean. The cut edges have marble pattern. Very good minus condition, and especially good for age. Name of previous owner on a Prelim. There is an invoice dated 1990, for130 pounds from the 'Natural History Book Service Ltd' from Galway in Ireland. Rare edition.
