BOOK CONDITION: near fine. The text block and illustrations are in fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. No bookplate or signature of prior owner. Not a library book, but there is a remainder mark on bottom edge. The light blue cloth boards are in very good condition (slight fading along top and bottom edges). The dust jacket is in very good condition (a few small tears along upper edge, shelf rubbing). 11 x 9, 156 pages, 31 ounces. Over 800 items are illustrated—tea services, caster sets, pitchers, napkin rings, trays and waiters, epergnes, salts, tureens, card receivers, toilet sets, butter dishes, pickle casters, knife rests. VICTORIAN SILVERPLATED HOLLOWARE is a unique volume for the collector and the student of American social history. It contains the original manufacturers sketches, prices and sizes of hundreds of now antique items, many of them from one of the most handsome engraved early Victorian American catalogs—Rogers Brothers, 1857. In addition, this volume includes a lengthy history of silverplate making in America, and sketches of three important producers.
