Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good++. Hardcover, First Edition 1980 Nan-Sea Publications 256 pages. Near Fine in a VG++ DJ. Brown cloth boards with gilt titles - corners sharp with just a hint of wear to the tips. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to DJ, one tiny closed tear - DJ now in mylar. No previous owner marks - all pages are clean and crisp. Great history of Port Stanley that concentrates on stories from the years around 1830 to the 1970's. Loads of vintage B&W photographs, illustrations, churches, a few maps and lots of local history and some genealogy. The site of Port Stanley, Ontario was part of an important early route from Lake Erie to other inland waterways for a succession of explorers and travelers of the 17th and 18th centuries because of its large sheltered harbor, serving as an important landing point and camping spot. Historically, these facilities supported trade in coal and wood between Southwestern Ontario and the United States. The village used to have a building opened in 1926 as the L&PS Pavilion, later renamed the Stork Club (not to be confused with the famous New York establishment), with a 13,000-square-foot (1,200 m2) dance floor, the largest dance floor in the London-Port Stanley area; the club was famous for swing dance and big band and attracted several big names to play there. Very Scarce. LOC SSM-07.
