Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Barron's Educational Services, Inc. (illustrator). States "First Edition for the United States, its territories, and Canada published in 2006 by Barron's Educational Services, Inc." (There was an earlier edition, in 2005.) While the presentation seems to promise salacious reports of Hollywood crimes and scandals, THAT book would actually be "Hollywood Babylon" -- or possibly "Beverly Hills Confidential." In fact, to merit inclusion in this 368-pg. compilation (which doesn't even list a single "author," only enough "contributors" to help "Project Manager" Dannielle Doggett field a baseball team, several holding forth from Australia or New Zealand), all it appears a movie actor has to have done is died before the age of 60 -- though an overdose of barbiturates does seem to help. (The 1947 "Black Dahlia" murder of Elizabeth Short is reported as "unsolved.") Generally one moderately depressing biography -- with two accompanying photos, occasionally in color -- per page. 368 pp. including Index.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. "The Avengers" combined pop art, fashion, tradition, modernity, high Englishness, feminism, espionage, sadism, fetishism and much more. The programme was simultaneously satirical, commercial and self parodic. It is claimed as the highest grossing British television export ever, with sales to 120 countries. Here Toby Miller focuses upon the texts of the series, their broadcast contexts and the interpretations that followed. The chapters cover a basic industrial history, key themes from episodes (pop, fashion, sex, genre and postmodernism) through to stories of its fans. Overall Miller teases out just what made the series so popular. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
