Mein Motiv zu dieser Correspondenz ist lediglich, weil ich der guten Sache dadurch zu nützen hoffe. Di…e Mittheilungen selbst würden nicht eben häufig kommen. Ich bitte meinen Namen zu verschweigen, der Unbefangenheit wegen, mit der ich berichten zu können wünschen muß [.] Ich bin jetzt Hofrath u. Oberbibliothekar hier in Weimar, wünsche mich aber mit der Zeit sehr auf eine Universität zurück. Neulich, bei der Frankfurter Vorberathung, war auch ich in Frankfurt, als Zuhörer. Ich wünschte sehr, mich Ihnen persönlich vorzustellen, konnte aber im Drange der Personen und Begebenheiten Ihrer nicht habhaft werden [.]". Preller war früher Privatdozent in Kiel, dann fünf Jahre o. Professor in Dorpat gewesen. Der Brief enthält am Schluß außer einer Notiz über den Verfasser den Provenienzvermerk: Don. Pr. Gervinus", so daß der Heidelberger Historiker und Herausgeber der Deutschen Zeitung", Georg Gottfried Gervinus, der Adressat sein könnte. Kleine Randschäden.
