Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (SD). 'An examination of the Post Liberation Problem of the Position of Central and Eastern European Nations in a free European Community'. This book was previously owned by former Assistant Secretary Of War and High Commissioner of Postwar Germany, John J. McCloy. Although the book does not contain his name, inside there was a signed and typed letter to Mr. McCloy from the Deputy Director of the European Integration Study Project, F. Lawrence Babcock, on the stationary of the Free Europe Committee. The last paragraph states that Dr. Thorbecke 'and all of us associated in this enterprise would be deeply grateful to have your opinion of this work, whether favorable or critical.' The letter is dated October 4, 1954. I have a growing number of listed books that were previously owned by Mr. McCloy, some of which are inscribed to him. These books were purchased directly from his home some years ago. The book condition is very good. You can see the covers in the photos provided. They have age toning on the spine, on the margins of the front, and more so on the rear. There are a few small areas of scuffing and a crease just off the top corner of the rear cover. This crease has resulted in a very light crease off the top corner of the latter pages in the book. I'm not seeing any other creasing, no turned-down corner creases, etc. The book is solidly bound from cover to cover. The pages are nicely tight throughout. They are also exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any soiling at all. Nor are there any markings. There are no attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. So the interior of the book, the pages, are in excellent shape.
