Good readable/working copy.; "Since opening its doors to the public in 1964, the Baur Collection, Museum of Far Eastern Art, has regularly published his catalogue. Eleven volumes have highlighted the Chinese ceramics and jade collections, Japanese sword fittings, netsuke, ceramics, lacquer ware and prints. This is volume XII of the general Catalogue, the sixth on Alfred Baur's collection of Chinese objects, devoted to Chinese snuff bottles. The study of this remarkable ensemble of some five hundred and fifty-six pieces should become a reference on the subject. Alfred Baur approached Chinese art from 1920 through jades and then snuff bottles. The minute detail and perfection of the craftsmanship on these bottles must have fascinated him as much as the technical mastery required to work hardstone and jade, two materials he was to seek out all is life. This catalogue presents only about a third of the snuff bottles in the inventory and hopes to give as accurate an overview as possible of the composition of the collection as a whole. We asked Vérène Nicollier to write it as she had worked as the assistant to the curators of the Baur collection for twenty-nine years and was undoubtedly the best person to explain all the diversity of Alfred Baur's collection to a broad audience.
