The publication is a collaboration between Ashfield Municipal Council and the Ashfield and District Historical Society. The history was written by Chris Pratten, Secretary to the Society. The photos are from Council's archives and the Society's collection. (No date, but 1998.).

His various businesses include jam making (Annandale and Stanmore), an orchard, a cannery, gold… mining (Hargraves, near Mudgee), and tin mining (Malaya). The was a councillor of Ashfield Municipal Council (and later Mayor), then after moving to the North Shore, a Federal Senator.
