Foxing/toning strongest to several initial and rear leaves with light interior occurrences; ink ownership note at top of front free endpaper along with, at center, an October 1909 six-line ink inscription which concludes "Compliments of Daniel Pratt" (presumably a namesake relation to the book's subject). Binding is firm. Frontispiece portrait with tissue guard; several b/w plates on unpaged leaves amongst text. Compilation of biographical essays and eulogies by various authors regarding Alabama industrialist Daniel Pratt (1799-1873) whose companies brought economic prosperity to Autauga County, Jefferson County, and the city of Birmingham before the Civil War and during the Reconstruction era. Concludes with a one-page eulogy of nephew and heir Merrill E. Pratt (1828-1889) also accompanied by portrait plate. A very good- copy of an uncommon book. {AL-Shelf#2|CMS-00311}.
