Add to basketHardcover. Condition: New. Pramod Kumar Gupta, an exemplary officer of the Indian Revenue Service and a former CEO of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India tells his storyhis escaping death, convalescence, changing responses of friends and the will to live life. He chronicles the story of recovering from a haemorrhagic stroke that incapacitated him for months. His story is about a strong will to survive and live life again. It is a book for the survivors and for those who want to live stronger after an unprecedented adversity. "And Living Again" is both a memoir and an autofiction. Gupta tells you about the devastating impact of the stroke, reflects upon the healthcare system in the country, and how the sheer will to live life with human dignity makes all the difference in one's chances of survival. He writes about what happened, and at the same time, conveys the message "that which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger." This book is a reflection on changing relationships. It is a narrative of the Indian Revenue Service as experienced by Gupta. It also contains the author's view on the Indian Civil Services and the healthcare industry. The book enumerates the bliss flowing from a loving spouse and an empathetic family. It reflects on the substantial impact of a nurturing father during adolescence that helped the author intellectually in adulthood. And finally, it is about heartfelt gratitude for those who stay with you in difficult moments of life.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: New. Pramod Kumar Gupta, an alumnus of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and a former IRS officer, recounts his memories and experiences at Dhanbad, the 'Coal Capital of India', where he was posted as Assistant Director of Income Tax (Investigation) in the early 1990s. Much has changed since then, but he wonders whether the ethos has and whether the coal industry can be seen in isolation. It needs a national character and a resolve to make a difference, he feels. Pramod Kumar Gupta's interface with the Mafia, the arson at his office and the role of the police and the CBI make for an interesting read. He was rewarded by the government for his investigations. This book by him provides insights into the functioning of the coal industry in general and the BCCL in particular. He also gives a vivid description of Dhanbad, the city and nearby places. He discusses the issue of overloading of commercial vehicles and informs of a reference made by an industrialist and the government's positive response. For those interested in the dynamics of the coal industry, the book is a trove of information and analysis. Pramod K. Gupta has served as an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (1984 batch). After his superannuation as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in October, 2019, he functioned as the CEO and Director General of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India. He suffered a haemorrhagic stroke in April, 2021, which was a near-death experience for him. Even while convalescing, he has been active with his pen and has several works to his credit. And Living Again was published in 2023. A collection of small poems in Hindi, Avyakta, was published simultaneously. Besides the present book Dhanbad: The Economics of Coal-The Mafia, another book, Living Through Times, has seen the light of day in 2024. Contents Preface 1. Coal: The Way We Go About It - CIL 2. Coal Industry Before Nationalisation 3. BCCL - Corruption and Mismanagement 4. Crime 5. Revenue and the Mafia - Personal Encounter 6. Coalgate: Indian Coal Allocation Scam(s) 7. Overloaded Vehicles / Trucks - Reference by Kedar Nath Mittal - Government's Response 8. Dhanbad - Places Nearby 9. Coal Industry in a Nutshell Acknowledgements.

Add to basketTaschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - World population is increasing at an alarming rate and this has resulted in increasing tremendously the demand for tree products such as wood for construction materials, fuel and paper, fruits, oils and medicines etc. This has put immense pressure on the world's supplies of trees and raw material to industry and will continue to do so as long as human population continues to grow. Also, the quality of human diet, especially nutritional components, is adversely affected due to limited genetic improvement of most of fruit trees. Thus there is an immediate need to increase productivity of trees. Improvement has been made through conventional breeding methods, however, conventional breeding is very slow due to long life cycle of trees. A basic strategy in tree improvement is to capture genetic gain through clonal propagation. Clonal propagation via organogenesis is being used for the production of selected elite individual trees. However, the methods are labour intensive, costly, and produce low volumes. Genetic gain can now be captured through somatic embryogenesis. Formation of embryos from somatic cells by a process resembling zygotic embryogenesis is one of the most important features of plants. In 1958, Reinert in Germany and Steward in USA independently reported somatic embryogenesis in carrot cultures. Since then, tremendous progress in somatic embryogenesis of woody and non-woody plants has taken place. It offers a potentially large-scale propagation system for superior clones.

Add to basketTaschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume focuses on technological advances relevant to establishing biofuels as a viable alternative to fossil fuels by overcoming current limitations. The progressive depletion of fossil fuels due to their large-scale utilization and their environmental consequences, notably global warming, increase the need for sustainable and cleaner energy options. Renewable biofuels - like biohydrogen, biomethane, biogas, ethanol and butenol - represent attractive energy sources to meet the growing global demand, thanks to sustainable and cost-efficient production approaches based on cellulosic biomass. Currently, the commercialization of these technologies is hindered by technical and economic limitations, such as biomass complexity and pre-treatment, enzyme hydrolysis, production efficiency as well as storage and cost. As such, this book presents economically viable and sustainable approaches to improve existing biofuel technologies and appeals to anyone with an interest in biofuelsas renewable energy options and their practical implementation.
