The verso of the title page has the Imprimatur in type of Samuel Mitchill, the well-known New York physician who taught at Columbia College. The dissertation is dedicated to two of Post's professors. Post evidently never practiced medicine, despite his graduation from Columbia.…Instead, he entered the drug-importing business, was active in New York City politics, a director of New York Hospital [1798-1802], and a single-term Federalist Congressman [1813-1815].
